This week, the WakeMed Health & Hospitals Board of Directors was pleased to announce the appointment of Donald R. Gintzig as WakeMed’s new president and CEO. Gintzig, who has been serving in an interim CEO role since October 2013, was selected from a pool of well-qualified candidates following a nationwide search.
A retired Rear Admiral in the United States Navy, Gintzig held positions of increasing responsibility throughout his military career. He began his career in private sector health care in 1983 and has served as CEO for several not-for-profit, faith-based and for-profit health systems across the United States. Gintzig earned both his undergraduate and graduate degrees from George Washington University in Washington, D.C.
Additionally, Time Warner Cable News ran this piece about WakeMed’s new leader on May 28 where Gintzig said, “We’re the community’s hospital, we’re of the community, by the community and for the community so if we’re really committed to not just delivering great healthcare but the overall health of the community, we’re going to be a key resource in partnering with others to help make that happen.”
