Ready for disaster - checking off the items on the emergency preparedness form

Disaster Preparedness Tool Kit

Hurricane Irma has the southeastern U.S. Atlantic coast in its sights, and Wake County, NC residents know all too well how wild weather can cause major destruction in our area.

At WakeMed, we are committed to helping you and your family stay safe during inclement weather, which is why we have compiled a trusted list of resources for you and your family before, during, and after the storm.

Many of these resources link directly to FEMA’s Ready.gov website. Other resources link WakeMed blogs containing safety messages related to illnesses/injuries we’ve treated in our emergency departments  following previous major storms.

Take a few minutes to review this comprehensive timeline from Ready.gov. It contains suggestions for things to do hour-by-hour before, during and after a storm. Also be sure to download the ReadyNC mobile app. This is a great resource to obtain information directly related to North Carolina.

Finally, make sure that all of your digital devices are fully charged. Only call 9-1-1 for life threatening situations.

Stay Safe!

Before The Storm

During the Storm

After the Storm

The majority of storm-related illnesses and injuries we treat happen after the storm during debris clean up, including chainsaw injuries, snake bites, bug bites and poison ivy.  Don’t let your guard down just because the storm has passed.
